Kia Truck Loaded with Salt Plunges into River Dayi off Gbi-Wegbe Bridge

Hohoe: A Kia truck carrying ten bags of salt plunged off the Gbi-Wegbe Bridge into the River Dayi in the Hohoe Municipality. The incident occurred at approximately 2200 hours on Saturday, September 13. Thankfully, there were no fatalities reported, although two of the four occupants sustained critical injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital.

According to Ghana News Agency, Zikpuitor Prosper Hayibor from Gbi-Wegbe confirmed the incident, stating that they were alerted and had to mobilize rescuers, primarily the youth from Gbi-Wegbe, to save the truck's occupants. The truck reportedly destroyed several barricades on the bridge before it fell into the river, prompting calls for immediate attention to the bridge's condition.

Zikpuitor Hayibor mentioned that the truck's load and important documents were safely transferred to his house, although retrieving the truck from the river posed challenges. Mr. Dickson Agbenorwu, a National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Zonal Officer, praised the local residents for their quick action in rescuing the occupants.

Mr. Raphael Kumaga, the Hohoe Municipal Director of NADMO, informed the Ghana News Agency that the truck had since been removed from the river, and the injured occupants were responding to treatment.
