Katakyiekrom: The chiefs and people of Katakyiekrom, a farming community in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region, have made a public appeal for support to finish a clinic project initiated by the community. Mr. Godfred Kwan, the Assembly Member of the Katakyiekrom Electoral Area, communicated this appeal on behalf of the community in an interview.
According to Ghana News Agency, the clinic project, which began as a self-help initiative in 2018, saw actual construction commencing in 2022. Mr. Kwan explained that while initial enthusiasm and community support were strong, the project was halted due to insufficient funds. Despite these challenges, communal labor enabled the community to roof the building, leaving only minor works to be completed.
Mr. Kwan highlighted the need for support to finish plumbing, electrical works, flooring, ceiling, and the installation of doors and windows. Additionally, he appealed for modern medical devices, supplies, and hospital beds to equip the facility.
In a related statement, Madam Franklina Owusu, a health worker at the Katakyiekrom Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compound, emphasized the pressing need for public assistance, citing the inadequate condition of the current facility. She noted that the CHPS compound lacks the space necessary to address the health needs of the growing local population and neighboring communities.
Mr. Owusu Acheaw, another health worker at the CHPS compound, expressed concerns about the environmental conditions, mentioning the dust and mud that accumulate during dry and wet seasons, which hinder quality healthcare delivery. Furthermore, he pointed out an ancient refuse dump near the facility that poses health risks by serving as a breeding ground for mosquitoes, rodents, and reptiles.
Madam Diana Yeboaa, a resident farmer, also voiced concerns about the CHPS compound's poor conditions, which pose dangers for pregnant women delivering at the facility. She reiterated the call for support to complete the clinic for the benefit of the community.
