International Conference on ESG and Sustainable Development Kicks Off in Accra

Accra: The second edition of the International Conference on Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) and Sustainable Development of Africa 2025 is set to commence on October 23-24 in Accra. Hosted by Green Communities International, a non-governmental organisation, the forum aims to bring together professionals from industry and academia to discuss pressing issues related to sustainability.

According to Ghana News Agency, the conference will take place at the GIMPA Executive Conference Centre under the theme: 'From Cradle to Cradle: Putting ESG and Sustainability First in Africa's Green Transition Effort.' The discussions will cover topics such as Climate Change and Green Finance, Corporate Social Investment, Environment and Social Governance, and Corporate Governance in Public Sector Institutions in Africa.

Professor De-Graft Owusu-Manu, President of Green Communities International, emphasized that the conference will aid stakeholders in understanding how to integrate the 'emerging concept' of ESG into business processes. He underscored the 'unprecedented changes' occurring in the environment, stressing the importance of collective efforts to tackle climate challenges.

"We recognise that the path to a greener future requires collective effort, innovation, and a commitment to sustainable practices.together, we can make a significant difference in our environment and communities," Professor Owusu-Manu stated. He also pointed out that beyond adopting new technologies or innovative practices, advocating for green initiatives should include developing a mindset that prioritises the planet's health and community well-being.

The green initiative aims to foster the development of green communities that are sustainable and resilient to climate change impacts. Among the topics for discussion are 'The Green Horizon: When Boardrooms Decide the Fate of the Planet' and 'Integrating Generative AI and Emerging Technologies in Sustainability and Green Governance.'

The conference will serve as a platform for stakeholders and academics to interact with ESG and sustainability experts. It will feature keynote presentations from researchers, business and political leaders, and stakeholders from various backgrounds.
