Kadjebi: A late-night fire has destroyed eleven shops at Zamlama Line, a suburb of Kadjebi in the Oti Region, leaving properties worth thousands of cedis in ruins.
According to Ghana News Agency, the incident, which occurred between 11:30 p.m. and midnight on Monday, August 18, affected several businesses including cosmetics, footwear, men's wear, clothing, and other retail outlets.
An eyewitness, Mr. Samuel Yao Dome, reported that the fire was believed to have started from one of the shops shortly after traders had offloaded their goods.
Mr. Michael Kwame, Assistant Divisional Fire Officer Grade II and Kadjebi District Fire Commander, stated that his team received a distress call during the night but was unable to respond immediately due to the lack of functional firefighting equipment at the Kadjebi station. Assistance was therefore requested from the Hohoe Fire Station, which dispatched a team to bring the fire under control.
Mr. Reuben Kemavor, Kadjebi District Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), mentioned that seven shop owners had so far been identified, with efforts underway to reach others. Authorities have since launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the fire.
