Incoming Government Urged to Harness Natural Resources in Western Region for Growth

Accra: The incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has been urged to fully harness the vast natural resources in the Western Region to create employment avenues for the teeming youth in the region. Dr Patrick Ekye Kwesie, Leader of the Western Nzema Youth League, who made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said it was imperative for the next government to invest in a resource-rich area like the Western Region to help transform the local economy, while contributing to national development.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Kwesie emphasized the significance of the Western Region's hydrocarbon resources, highlighting their potential to transform the local economy and uplift residents' lives. He stressed the importance of President-elect John Dramani Mahama fulfilling his promise to invest in and empower the youth of this region to ensure meaningful transformation.

Dr Kwesie remarked that the youth are crucial for the country's development aspirations, urging the government to prioritize their wellbeing through investments in employable skills. He suggested that by equipping young individuals with necessary tools, training, and opportunities, they could become not only beneficiaries of the region's mineral wealth but also active participants in its management and growth.

The proposed training initiatives include access to education, vocational training, and entrepreneurship programs tailored to the region's local economy's unique needs. Dr Kwesie expressed a passionate plea to the incoming government to invest in the youth to mitigate challenges of unemployment and underemployment, which have long affected the region.

By focusing on these efforts, Dr Kwesie believes that the region can foster a generation of skilled workers and innovators who will drive sustainable development in the Western Region.
