According to ghana news agency:ccording to Ghana News Agency, eyewitnesses described the accident as terrifying, adding to a series of road mishaps recorded on the same stretch since the start of the year. Though the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, eyewitnesses at the scene blamed the incident on the numerous potholes on the road, combined with reckless speeding, which has become a worrying characteristic among drivers on that route.
'These drivers on this road, over speeding is their hallmark,' one eyewitness lamented to the Ghana News Agency. 'They just fly past without caution, and this is what keeps happening,' the eyewitness added.
According to some commercial drivers who ply the Ho-Adaklu, Ho-Adidome, and Ho-Sogakope routes, accidents have become frequent due to the poor state of the road, with potholes posing major risks, especially during early mornings and late evenings when visibility is reduced. The taxi driver, identified only as Selorm, reportedly lost control of his vehicle after running through a pothole, which led to the car veering into the opposite lane and colliding head-on with the Toyota Camry.
'I only saw him coming, crossing into my lane at top speed,' the Camry driver, visibly shaken, told the GNA at the scene. 'I tried to dodge by swerving to the left, but he changed direction again and ended up crashing straight into me,' he said.
All passengers in the taxi sustained varying degrees of injuries, with the taxi driver said to be in critical condition, and the injured were conveyed to the Ho Teaching Hospital for treatment. Residents and commuters in the area are once again calling on authorities to urgently repair the Hosita-Adaklu road to prevent further tragedies.
'This is the third serious accident on the same stretch,' another concerned resident pointed out. 'Are we waiting for someone to die before fixing this road?' he asked. Meanwhile, officials from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service have begun investigations into the cause of the accident.
