GNA’s Hannah Awadzi Honoured as the Most Outstanding Female Journalist for 2025

Accra: Mrs Hannah Awadzi, Online Editor at the Ghana News Agency, has been named the Most Outstanding Female Journalist in Ghana (2025) at the prestigious Ghana Women Awards, held in Accra at the weekend.According to Ghana News Agency, the Ghana Women Awards is an annual event that honours women who have distinguished themselves in their careers and contributed meaningfully to national development.Mrs Awadzi was awarded alongside other Ghanaian women who have distinguished themselves over the period. Her recognition comes as no surprise to those familiar with her advocacy work for persons with disabilities, especially children, alongside her main profession as a journalist. She is known for her focus on human-centered stories that amplify the voices of marginalized communities, particularly persons with disabilities, children with special needs, and their families.Her reporting is recognized for its depth, empathy, and advocacy-driven approach. Through her work, Mrs Awadzi has consistently challenged s ocietal norms, pushed for inclusive policies, and inspired change across Ghana's media landscape. Upon receiving the award, a plaque, and a certificate, Mrs Awadzi expressed her overwhelming gratitude and reiterated her commitment to using media as a tool for advocacy, inclusion, and social justice.She thanked the Ghana Journalists Association for nominating her for the awards. "This award is for every woman who dares to tell stories that matter, and for every child whose voice deserves to be heard," she said. "I am deeply honoured and even more inspired to continue this journey. I will continue to encourage and mentor the younger generation, especially young journalists, to do their best. Embrace kindness, work diligently, and do your best because you make a difference, and God sees," Mrs Awadzi added.Other award winners for the night included Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sarpong, who won the Legendary Woman Award, and Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award. Adeline Akweley Quarshie was named Corporate Woman of the Year, and Anita Akua Akuffo received the Most Promising Lady award. Other notable awardees included Mrs Sylvia Linda Aku Larbi, Janet Agwiah, Empress Gifty Adorye, Commodore Faustina Boakyewaa Anokye, and several others recognized for their contributions in various fields.The award was instituted in 2009 by Brain Consult in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
