Western North: The Western North branch of the Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM) has extended its congratulation to nine persons nominated by the President to become Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the Western North Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, President John Dramani Mahama, in accordance with Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and section 20 (1) of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936), nominated nine individuals to be MDCEs, pending approval from the respective Assemblies in the region.
The nominees include Mr. Dominic Gyasi for Wiawso Municipal, Mr. Joseph Appiah for Akontombra District, Mr. Francis Amankwaa for Bia East District, Mr. Alex Adu Quist for Juaboso District, Mr. Stephen Baidoo for Sefwi-Bodi District, and Mr. Sebastian Obeng for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal. Additionally, Mr. Stephen Morcher has been nominated for Aowin Municipal, Mr. Vasco Obour for Suaman District, and Mr. Annor Matthew for Bia West.
A statement signed by Mr. Frank Nelson Ackah, President of the Association, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, indicated their readiness and commitment to support the development of local governance across the country. "We as an Association believe in your ability to deliver on your mandates and a deep understanding of the needs of your respective districts," the statement remarked.
The statement urged the nominees to work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in them for the nation's best interest. It emphasized the importance of engaging with communities, listening to their concerns, and working collaboratively to address district challenges.
The statement also commended President Mahama for his role in the decentralization process, noting that the nominations of MMDCEs are a testament to his commitment to empowering local communities.
