Foundation Supports Sogakope Schoolgirls with Sanitary Pads to Enhance Education

Accra: The Ewe Loyalty Foundation, a non-government organisation, has extended its support to the Sogakope D.A Basic 'B' school located in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region by donating sanitary pads to the students.

According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative aims to promote menstrual health and hygiene among schoolgirls in the area and enhance their access to quality education. Mr. Shine Setor, the Secretary of the foundation, emphasized the importance of promoting good menstrual hygiene practices among girls in the region. He highlighted the donation as part of the foundation's fifth anniversary launch, aiming to alleviate challenges girls face during their periods, particularly those unable to afford sanitary pads.

Mr. Setor explained that the foundation recognized the issue of school absenteeism among vulnerable girls during their menstrual periods. The initiative seeks to address this challenge by supplying sanitary pads to rural schoolgirls and encouraging the recognition of menstruation as a natural cycle in a woman's life. He expressed confidence that the support would empower girls to manage their menstruation with dignity and confidence, even during school hours.

Appealing to the school staff, Mr. Setor urged them to guide the students in using the pads appropriately and to encourage the beneficiaries to utilize the items for their intended purpose, fostering a brighter future. He noted the foundation's broader mission to support the less privileged, orphans, and the hopeless, with initiatives like sanitary pad donations demonstrating their commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of those in need.

Mrs. Juliana Kokofi, the Headteacher of Sogakope D.A Basic B school, received the items on behalf of the students and expressed her excitement and gratitude for the support. She acknowledged the impact of menstrual cycles on girls' academic performance, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and expressed hope that the donation would positively impact the schoolgirls' lives.

The provision of sanitary pads is expected to promote menstrual hygiene and reduce the stigma associated with menstruation, ultimately benefiting the health, well-being, and education of the beneficiaries. Some students expressed joy over the support and pledged to use the pads appropriately, while others urged similar organizations, philanthropists, and individuals to emulate the foundation's efforts in addressing menstrual challenges faced by schoolgirls.
