Former Nkroful Assembly Member Commends Government’s Initiatives Against Galamsey

Nkroful: Mr John Kwaw Nketiah, a former Assembly Member of Nkroful electoral area, has lauded the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government's bold initiative in the last eight months to tackle the galamsey menace in galamsey-prone zones in the country.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Nketiah said the government, through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, had taken measures to deal with the galamsey nuisance head-on without fear or favour. He emphasized that the political will power given to the galamsey fight by the NDC government was a step in the right direction.

Mr Nketiah commended the sector Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, for introducing initiatives such as the Water Guards, the Omanbapa Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme, and the burning of excavators and Chanfang machines as effective measures to clamp down on galamsey activities.

He also highlighted the efforts of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Secretariat (NAIMUS) and the constant patrol, arrest, and prosecution of illegal miners operating at river bodies and forest reserves.

Mr Nketiah called on Ghanaians to 'join in the fight against galamsey.'
