Saboba: A fire outbreak at the girls' dormitory of the Saboba E/P Senior High School in the Northern Region has led to the death of one student at the dormitory. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, January 22, when the dormitory unexpectedly caught fire. After the fire was brought under control, the charred remains of the student were discovered.
According to Ghana News Agency, the fire caused significant damage to the dormitory, destroying the property belonging to the students housed there. Efforts by the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to manage the situation were hindered by equipment failure. Assistant Divisional Officer (1) Mr. Yussif Issahaku, the Saboba District Commander of GNFS, reported that the pump of the fire tender malfunctioned, compelling the fire personnel to resort to using buckets of water in their attempt to extinguish the flames.
Mr. Issahaku further stated that investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the fire. The tragic event has left the school community in mourning and prompted calls for a thorough review of emergency response resources in the area.
