Fire Consumes Five Container Stores in Winneba

Winneba: An inferno that broke out on Sunday, June 15, 2025, around 0518 hours, completely consumed five container shops at a road opposite the University of Education, Winneba, North Campus. No casualties were recorded; however, a printing press shop with numerous gadgets valued at several thousands of Ghana Cedis was among the stores affected.

According to Ghana News Agency, ADO I. Dery Vitus, Public Relations Officer of the Effutu Directorate of the Ghana National Service, reported that the office received a telephone call from one of the Service's officials, reporting the fire outbreak. A crew was dispatched to the scene at 0608 hours and upon arrival, observed that containers used as provision, fruits, phones and phone accessories shops, a boutique, and a printing press were all engulfed in the fully developed fire.

It took officers an hour and a half to douse the fire, preventing it from spreading to other shops. DOI Dery urged residents of Winneba and its surrounding communities to observe fundamental fire safety measures to prevent man-made fire disasters. He emphasized the importance of putting out fires after cooking, replacing old electrical wires, avoiding leaving lighted candles unattended, and not storing petroleum products in bedrooms and stores as these were major contributors to fire outbreaks.

DOI Dery also advised residents to promptly contact the Ghana National Fire Service, whose personnel are trained to handle such emergencies. He expressed sympathy to the victims of the disaster and cautioned the public against delaying the reporting of such incidents until they escalate out of control.
