Fawoade Bampenase: Residents of Fawoade Bampenase in the Kwabre East Municipality of Ashanti have called on the Ghana Police Service to come to their aid by increasing visibility and strengthening security in the area. The community has been grappling with rampant robbery incidents, which have become a source of worry and have created fear and panic among residents.
According to Ghana News Agency, the robberies, perpetrated by some unidentified youth in the community, occur in broad daylight, during power outages, and in the evenings. These incidents have become a critical concern for many people in the area, with about five robbery cases reported in the community over the course of one week.
Ms. Sherifatu Ibrahim, a National Service Personnel and resident of the area, recounted her ordeal, stating that the robbers broke her windows while she was asleep and stole valuable items such as mobile phones, handbags, cash, and other possessions. On February 12, 2025, during a power outage caused by rain, her window was broken by thieves who took three bags containing valuable items. One of the bags contained GHC 1,000.00, her national identification card, health insurance, and other documents. Although the bags were later found at a nearby unfinished building, the money and other valuables were missing.
Ms. Ibrahim noted that this was the fifth time she had been robbed. On the same day, the robbers targeted a nearby house, stealing bags with money, clothes, and other valuable items, and in another instance, they took a car battery from a vehicle. The frequency of these robberies has become so troubling that residents avoid going out after 2200 hours and between 0400 and 0500 hours in the morning to prevent being robbed.
Due to the persistent criminal activities, some residents are selling their property and moving out of the community. Ms. Ibrahim emphasized the urgent need for police intervention to strengthen security and safeguard the lives and property of the people in the area.
