Kumasi: The chiefs and people of the Atwima traditional area in the Ashanti region have staged a protest against Asabea Constructions Ltd, the contractor responsible for a major road project connecting communities in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the chiefs and residents along the road from the Kwadaso Municipality to the Atwima Kwanwoma district expressed dissatisfaction with the road's condition, citing numerous potholes resulting from poor construction work.
Nana Tieku Owusu Ansah II, the Head of Linguists of the Atwimahene, addressed the media after the demonstration, urging the government to replace the contractor. "Asabea constructions has been on the road for eight years now, and there's no progress in the construction work. The few kilometers he constructed have all been washed away, leaving the road in a very deplorable state," he stated.
The chiefs also expressed frustration with the contractor's disregard for traditional authorities in the area. "In our attempt to get a briefing on the road, we called the contractor, but he failed on several occasions to show up," Nana Owusu Ansah added.
Other chiefs participating in the demonstration, including the Atwima Nifahene Nana Afriyie Taki III, Denkyemuoso Chief, Nana Wiredu Akrokropanin, and Atwima Akwamuhene, supported the call for the contractor's replacement. They argued that the contractor was not fit to work in the area and urged the government to deploy a more competent contractor to fix the road.
