Denver: Mr. Dickson Kyere-Duah, the Member of Parliament for Berekum West, has called on natives of the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions residing in the diaspora to contribute to the construction of a Dialysis Center in the Bono Region. The appeal was made during the 2025 Annual Convention of the Council of Bono and Ahafo Associations of North America (COBAANA) in Denver, Colorado.
According to Ghana News Agency, the center, which is being constructed by COBAANA in Sunyani, aims to diagnose and tackle kidney-related diseases. Mr. Kyere-Duah emphasized the need for support to improve healthcare delivery back home. The convention, themed 'The health of our people is our concern,' gathered hundreds of Ghanaians and friends of Ghana from across North America to discuss community welfare and resource mobilization for development.
The statement from the MP's office highlighted the commendable efforts of COBAANA in uniting citizens from the Bono and Ahafo regions and leading initiatives that impact development in Ghana. It praised the association's commitment to the Dialysis Centre, describing the project as a lifesaving intervention that will restore hope and dignity to families affected by kidney disease.
The statement also pointed out the critical need for dialysis services in Ghana due to rising cases of kidney-related diseases and the limited access in the regions. It acknowledged the importance of diaspora contributions to national development, with remittances and investments playing a vital role in Ghana's economy. The MP pledged to support collaborations between the diaspora and local institutions.
The convention featured a fundraising dinner-dance, where attendees pledged financial support for the Sunyani Dialysis Centre project. The statement urged unity among citizens at home and abroad to work together for the development of the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, served as the special Guest of Honour.
