Ashanti region: The Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council has announced stringent security measures following the fatal shooting of Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azenbge, Chief of Kusaase, at Asawase on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, a statement signed by Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, expressed the Regional Security Council's (REGSEC) deepest condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice. The REGSEC convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday, July 24, 2025, to assess the security situation and outlined immediate directives aimed at restoring calm.
Following that meeting, REGSEC has directed that no motorbikes would be allowed on roads after 1900 hours, with motorbikes without proper registration or lights also strictly banned. In addition, motorbike riders are prohibited from wearing smocks to prevent the concealment of weapons, and an inter-tribal football competition has been suspended indefinitely.
To enforce these measures, police and military personnel will be deployed to security hotspots across the region, according to the press statement. The statement emphasized the government's determination to bring the perpetrators to justice and called on the public to provide credible information to assist ongoing investigations.
'The REGSEC remains ready and committed to maintaining law and order while ensuring the safety of all residents,' the release noted.
