Accra: The Anlo Dukor Council has expressed its support for Dr Johnson Asiama following his nomination as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG). The council lauded President John Mahama for prioritizing competence and experience in the selection of key national appointees.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Asiama's nomination, which awaits approval by the Council of State, has been met with opposition from the New Patriotic Party Minority in Parliament due to allegations linked to his role in the collapse of Unibank and UT Bank. However, these charges were recently dropped by the office of the Attorney-General.
In a press statement issued by Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, the Awadada of Anlo, on behalf of Togbi Sri III, the Awoamefia of Anlo, the council described the allegations against Dr Asiama as "politically motivated and baseless." The council emphasized that his extensive background in economics and central banking renders him the ideal candidate to lead the BoG during these critical times.
The statement highlighted Dr Asiama's proficiency in monetary policy formulation and his commitment to financial sector stability as key attributes that would facilitate Ghana's economic recovery and fortify the nation's financial system.
The Anlo Dukor Council reiterated its unwavering support for Dr Asiama, expressing confidence that he will drive the BoG towards achieving economic stability and growth. The council also commended President Mahama for affirming Dr Asiama's leadership and expertise, anticipating that his stewardship will restore the Bank of Ghana's strength and fulfill its mandate to the Ghanaian people.
