Akontombra: Assembly members in the Akontombra District of the Western North Region have confirmed Mr. Joseph Appiah as the District Chief Executive (DCE), following a unanimous vote of confidence.
According to Ghana News Agency, all 22 assembly members, consisting of 15 elected representatives and seven appointees, voted in favor, resulting in a 100 percent confirmation of Mr. Appiah's nomination. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Appiah expressed gratitude to the President for his trust and pledged to complete all unfinished projects within the district.
Mr. Wilbert Petty Brentum, the Western North Regional Minister, emphasized the urgency for the new DCE to address the issue of illegal mining in the region. He urged Mr. Appiah to ensure that companies with legitimate mining licenses conduct their operations responsibly, safeguarding forest reserves and water bodies in the Akontombra District.
The confirmation event was attended by traditional authorities, Members of Parliament for the Akontombra and Wiawso constituencies, Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, former MP for Wiawso, Mr. Yawson Amoah, the immediate past DCE for Akontombra, and other party faithful.
