Agona West MP Donates Equipment to Swedru Municipal Government Hospital

Agona swedru: Mrs. Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, Member of Parliament for Agona West, has presented essential hospital equipment to the Swedru Municipal Government hospital to enhance its operational capabilities. The donation aligns with her campaign promise made during the 2024 elections and follows her recent visit to the hospital to evaluate its needs for improved healthcare delivery.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Dangbey's initiative stems from a personal experience eight years ago at the Swedru Hospital, where she witnessed the challenges faced by patients due to the lack of necessary equipment. Despite the passing of time, these issues persisted, prompting her to make this significant donation. The equipment includes beds, BP apparatus, thermometers, weighing scales, nebulizing machines, autoclaves, and various other medical tools.

The donated items will be distributed across 16 other health centers to support doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff in delivering quality healthcare in the Agona West Constituency. Mrs. Dangbey expressed her aspiration for Swedru Government Hospital to become a leading facility, equipped to handle emergency cases without the need for referrals to the Winneba Specialized and Trauma Hospital. She highlighted the hospital's importance, serving residents of Swedru and neighboring districts, including Agona East, Gomoa Central, Awutu Bawjise, and Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa.

Ongoing discussions with the Minister of Health, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, focus on acquiring a modern X-ray machine to replace the outdated one at Swedru Municipal Government Hospital, further enhancing service quality. Additionally, plans are underway to expand the female ward of the hospital.

Dr. Jocelyn Darkwa, Agona West Municipal Director of Health Services, expressed gratitude to the MP for the timely contribution and called for continued support from individuals and organizations to equip the hospital further. Mr. Eric Gyamfi Odoom, the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, noted that the equipment donation aligns with the health sector priorities emphasized by President John Mahama and the NDC party during the 2024 elections. He praised the hospital staff for their dedication during the recent nationwide strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association.

Dr. Julius Abuku, Medical Superintendent of Swedru Municipal Government Hospital, assured that the equipment would be carefully maintained and appealed for ongoing support from the MP and MCE to enable healthcare professionals to provide quality services to Agona West and beyond.
