Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area Disowns Alleged Agona Abodom Chief

Agona nyakrom: The Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council has officially disowned Opanyin Kwesi Gyan, also known as Frank Asiedu, who was allegedly installed as the Chief of Agona Abodom without the consent of the Omanhene, Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X.

According to Ghana News Agency, Opanyin Gyan had claimed the title Nana Osam Dadzie Obrempong XI, but his installation did not follow the customary protocols required by the region's traditions.

The Omanhene, responsible for maintaining peace and overseeing the area's customs, took decisive action by banning the 2025 Akwambo festival scheduled for August to prevent potential conflicts. During a press conference in Agona Nyakrom, Nana Kojo Amoakwa V, the Krontihene of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, expressed the council's firm stance. Speaking on behalf of the Omanhene, Nana Amoakwa emphasized that Opanyin Gyan is not recognized as a legitimate chief and labeled him an imposter.

On June 28, 2025, reports of Opanyin Kwesi Gyan's contested enstoolment reached the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council. During the ceremony, he was paraded in a palanquin, asserting his claim to the chieftaincy. However, a letter from the Asona Family of Agona Abodom, including Ebusuapanyin Kwesi Prah and Ebusuapanyin Yaw Otoo, stated their intention to dissociate from the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area.

The council has indicated its intent to take appropriate measures and warned that any chiefs found complicit would face consequences. Nana Amoakwa urged government and private institutions to refrain from engaging with the self-proclaimed chief, warning of potential risks for failing to comply.

The Agona Nyakrom Traditional Council, led by Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku and supported by divisional chiefs, queen mothers, kingmakers, and family heads, reiterated its commitment to uphold the area's customs and traditions. They aim to ensure the proper installation of a qualified candidate as Agona Abodom's chief, dismissing any self-appointed individuals who disregard established protocols.

The press conference was attended by notable figures, including Nana Dr. Ampem Darko V, the Kyidomhene of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, and Kweku Esieni V, the Regent of Agona Swedru.
