Accra: Zenith Bank has emphasized the necessity for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to implement structured fuel payment systems to address significant operational challenges. Mr. Kwame Adadey, the Divisional Head for SME Retail and Digital Banking at Zenith Bank, highlighted that while large logistics companies benefit from sophisticated systems, smaller businesses are often left to manage issues that hinder their growth and efficiency. He made these remarks at the launch of an innovative fleet solution aimed at corporate and enterprise customers.
According to Ghana News Agency, the new solution seeks to digitize fleet and fuel expenses, enhancing visibility and accountability for businesses. The Visa Commercial Fleet Solutions will empower Zenith Bank's clients to manage their fleet expenses more effectively with Fleet Cards and a comprehensive Fleet Management System platform. The SME sector, being the backbone of Ghana's economy, faces numerous challenges, including limited capital, market access, and operational inefficiencies.
Among the most pressing challenges for SMEs is the management of fleet and fuel expenses. Cash-based transactions for fuel payments often lead to fraud, lack of accountability, and a scarcity of data necessary for informed decision-making. During an interview, Mr. Adadey noted that even businesses with a minimal fleet of three or four vehicles struggle with cash management, citing issues of fraud and corruption. He advocated for a proper fuel card solution to provide better control over expenditures.
Mr. Adadey explained that such a system allows businesses to manage drivers and cash more efficiently while offering a detailed overview of expenditures, facilitating better tracking of fuel and maintenance costs. The data generated by the system enables business owners to make informed decisions, such as identifying vehicles that may be financially burdensome.
Mr. Fabrice Konan, Country Manager for Visa Ghana, stated that the fleet solution would permit enterprises to equip their drivers with the means to pay for fuel and vehicle-related expenses while maintaining control through detailed reporting on the Fleet Management platform. He expressed excitement about partnering with Zenith Bank to introduce this innovative Fleet Solution, underscoring the commitment to providing advanced payment solutions that enhance efficiency and transparency for businesses in Ghana.
