Zambia: Fdd Decries Campaign Ban

Opposition FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza says his party was being punished for the foolishness of others. This follows a 10 day campaign ban in Lusaka and Namwala as announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

Mwaza, who is FDD Munali aspiring MP, says it was wrong for ECZ to suspend campaigns. He says the commission should have punished the political parties instigating violence.

BELOW IS ANTONIO MWANZA’S STATEMENT

ECZ is wrong to suspend campaigns. What ECZ should do is to PUNISH the violent candidates and parties as opposed to inconveniencing some of us who have been peaceful; us who have nothing to do with the madness of violence.

Justice requires that the erring individuals are penalised and that the innocent people are protected thus it is a gross injustice to punish us innocent people. We have nothing to do with this nonsense.

ECZ should instead disqualify the warring individuals’/parties’ and leave us alone to freely campaign. We can’t be punished for other individuals’/parties’ foolishness.
