Woman Arrested for Stabbing Ex-Boyfriend and Arson in Sowutuom

Accra: The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old woman for allegedly stabbing her ex-boyfriend and burning his belongings in Sowutuom. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, Augustina Adoma, visited her former boyfriend, Emmanuel Otabil, a 30-year-old driver, unannounced on the morning of Thursday, June 26, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, Adoma, upon seeing Otabil with another woman, allegedly poured a bucket of water on them and took his Samsung mobile phone before leaving, a news brief by Superintendent of Police Ms. Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, said. Later that day, at about 1600 hours, she reportedly returned to Otabil's residence in his absence, used a duplicate key to enter his kiosk, and set fire to several of his belongings, including a mattress, carpet, blankets, and bedsheets.

In the evening, a confrontation ensued when Otabil approached Adoma to retrieve his phone and confront her about the arson. 'In the course of the argument, Adoma allegedly picked up a knife belonging to a nearby orange seller and stabbed Otabil in the left side of his chest,' DSP Obeng stated. Otabil was initially taken to Race Course Hospital, transferred to Lapaz Community Hospital, and later conveyed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently hospitalised and responding to treatment.

Police investigations led to the recovery of the stolen phone from Adoma, who was arrested at the Tesano Police Station, where she had gone to submit a medical report in support of a separate assault complaint she had filed against the victim. DSP Obeng said that the matter was under investigation and that Adoma had been arraigned before court. The Police Command has cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, particularly in domestic and relationship-related disputes.
