Western North Health Directorate Engages Stakeholders on Cholera Prevention

Western North: The Western North Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has organized a stakeholder meeting to formulate strategies aimed at preventing a potential cholera outbreak during the forthcoming rainy season.

According to Ghana News Agency, the meeting gathered representatives from the Regional Education Directorate, Environmental Health Department, selected media houses, as well as staff and management of the Regional Ghana Health Service. In her address, Madam Patience Ofosu Hemaa from the National Health Promotion Division of the Ghana Health Service urged the media to leverage their platforms to support public education efforts on cholera prevention.

She underscored that media involvement would be crucial in motivating community members to adopt proper hygiene practices. 'Because the public trust the media, we appeal to you to help educate them on the dos and don'ts to avoid a cholera outbreak as the rainy season approaches,' she said. Additionally, she called on stakeholders to extend the education on cholera prevention to marketplaces, mosques, churches, and schools.

Mr. Abubakari Abudaidal, the Regional Health Promotion Officer, recommended the establishment of community-based committees to spearhead public sensitization efforts against cholera. Participants at the meeting pledged their commitment to supporting awareness campaigns to help safeguard public health in the region.
