Hohoe: Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has announced intentions to attract investors to rejuvenate the defunct Coffee Processing Factory in Hohoe. The factory, once operational, is expected to play a significant role in supporting the government's 24-Hour Economy policy.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Gunu, during his working visit to the Municipality, emphasized the potential employment opportunities for local citizens upon the factory's revival. He highlighted the Volta Regional Coordinating Council's commitment to aligning investors' interests with the factory's restoration efforts.
Mr Gunu noted the historical significance of the factory, established by Ghana's first president, as a strategically placed entity for processing coffee, a predominant crop in the region. The revival of the factory is seen as a critical step in enhancing the local economy.
Mr Prosper Kumi, the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, stated that the factory's operation would benefit coffee-producing communities like Wli and Gbledi by providing a market for their produce. He mentioned that the processed coffee would also have added value.
Mr Frank Amoah Frimpong, the Regional Administrator of the Ghana Cocoa Board, provided insights into the factory's history, noting its cessation of production for many years. He mentioned that the factory was equipped with machines capable of processing shea and included warehouse facilities.
