Atsugbor: Residents of Atsugbor in the Anloga District of the Volta Region were in shock and panic after a body of a man believed to be in his 40s was washed ashore in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the tragic incident happened on Friday, June 20, at about 1345 hours. Mr. James Fiati, the Assembly Member of the Area, stated in an interview that the incident has caused a wave of concern among residents, with many calling for a thorough investigation to determine the cause of death.
Mr. Fiati reported receiving a call from a community elder about the incident, prompting him to alert others to rush to the scene for identification of the deceased. Further information suggested that a drowning incident involving fisherfolks from Ada had occurred at Fuveme near Anloga township, where fishermen were reported missing.
He mentioned that a message has been sent to the Ada fisherfolks' association to assist in identifying the deceased, as it is believed the man may not be a local resident. Mr. Fiati emphasized the need for authorities and fishing associations to investigate such incidents and provide advice to fishermen.
The Assembly Member also noted that other fisherfolks in various electoral areas were notified and called for public assistance in identifying the deceased. He confirmed that a report has been made to the Anloga police, who have transported the body to Keta Municipality hospital morgue for examination and autopsy.
