UHAS Installs First Hall Masters and Wardens for Sokode and Asogli Halls

According to ghana news agency:wned halls to create a positive atmosphere for students and staff. This move comes after receiving approval from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). Hallmasters and wardens are tasked with the overall leadership and management of the halls, including responsibilities for administration, governance, security, welfare, and facility maintenance. They also oversee smaller, privately-owned hostels.

The ceremony aimed to officially recognize the appointed individuals as leaders of the halls, who will report to the Dean of Students. Professor Aziato emphasized the importance of strong leadership in the halls for the university's growth and development. The university is committed to investing in its halls of residence and recognizes the significance of effective management. The appointment of hallmasters and wardens is seen as a crucial step in ensuring a smooth operation and a positive environment in the halls.

Professor Judith A. Torgbor, Dean of Students, stated that the appointment of Dr. Adedia and Dr. Ben reflects their dedication, leadership potential, and the trust placed in their ability to uphold university values and standards. She highlighted that their leadership would be defined by four pillars: excellence, integrity, innovation, and social welfare. Prof. Torgbor urged the appointees to maintain high standards in all aspects of students' residential life, acting as guardians, mentors, and primary points of contact for students while nurturing their potential.

She also emphasized the need for each hall of residence to be safe and secure, promoting security measures, mental health awareness, accessibility in distress, and emergency and grievance protocols. The appointees were encouraged to lead with excellence, embrace innovation, maintain integrity, and prioritize student welfare.

Dr. Adedia and Dr. Ben expressed the significance of their new roles and pledged to uphold the responsibilities with diligence and integrity. They committed to championing student-centered governance, investing in sustainable and inclusive systems, ensuring general hygiene and wellbeing, and supporting infrastructure expansion. They announced plans to enhance security measures by installing CCTV cameras at strategic points, establishing emergency lines, instituting hall week celebrations and annual training regimes, and creating a budget committee with student staff representation.

The Sokode and Asogli Halls, along with other privately-owned facilities, accommodate up to 2,622 students.
