Cape Town: Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, has called on sports stakeholders to contribute towards mitigating the effects of climate change on sporting events. He made this appeal at the Global Sports and Sustainability Forum in South Africa, where experts and stakeholders have gathered to discuss sustainable environmental practices.According to Ghana News Agency, the forum is hosted by Sports 20 in collaboration with Foundations 20 and the Climate Solutions Forum. It aims to explore how sports can drive cross-sectoral sustainable development and economic change. Mr. Adams emphasized that sports are both a contributor to and a victim of climate change, affecting sporting events and infrastructure. He urged all sports enthusiasts and stakeholders to engage with climate change issues.Mr. Adams highlighted the unifying power of sports across different religions, races, and political affiliations, stressing the need for collective action on climate change issues. He noted the impo rtance of political will and leadership in instituting measures to combat climate change, urging the integration of international climate policies into local initiatives.The Global Sports and Sustainability Forum is expected to produce a position paper for the G20, COP, and other leading sports associations, driving further action in the realm of sports and sustainability.
