President Mahama Unveils Road Rehabilitation Plans for Bono Region Under ‘Big Push’ Initiative

Sunyani: President John Dramani Mahama has committed to improving the condition of several key roads in the Bono Region as part of his government's "Big Push" initiative, aimed at accelerating socio-economic development.According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama outlined that the initiative will cover the rehabilitation of the Sunyani Inner and Outer city ring roads, Catholic University Road, Berekum-Sampa Road, and Sampa-Wenchi Road. The plan also includes reshaping the Odomasi-Badu Road, Kyeremasu-Gambia Number One and Gambia Number Two road, as well as the Sunyani-Techiman Road and Sunyani-Kumasi highway.President Mahama made these remarks while addressing the chiefs and residents of the Bono Region at the Sunyani Jubilee Park during his 'Thank You Tour'. He assured that the funding for the "Big Push" road infrastructure project is secured and that contractors will receive payment within two weeks upon certificate submission.He noted that the Road Ministry has finalized technical assessments, a nd the first phase of the project is set to begin shortly. The President emphasized that the roads will adhere to standards of durability and quality to ensure timely completion, highlighting the importance of these improvements for better transportation, healthcare access, and boosting agriculture, trade, and commerce.Additionally, President Mahama discussed plans for enhancing sports development nationwide, with a focus on regions lacking modern sports infrastructure, including Bono. The plan includes constructing 'fit-for-purpose' stadiums.Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is leading a market enhancement strategy, which will involve building five modern market centers in strategic districts of the Bono Region, including Sunyani. These markets will feature clean water, sanitation facilities, security, daycare centers, and digital infrastructure to support women traders and boost economic activities.
