Police Foils Attempted Bank Robbery at Winneba

Winneba: The Anti Armed Robbery Response Unit (AARU) of the Ghana Police Service has foiled an attempted robbery at a bank in the Central Region. This incident occurred when the robbers attempted to break into the MRB Bank vault at Winneba on August 15, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, the operation by the robbers triggered the bank's alarm, which alerted the Police Patrol Team. Upon reaching the location, police officers were met with gunfire from the robbers. After a brief exchange of fire, the gang fled the scene, leaving behind a pump-action shotgun, empty cartridges, and other tools intended for the robbery.

Police investigations revealed that the attempted bank robbery involved approximately five armed men who tried to access the bank's vault but were thwarted by the prompt response of the police. Further investigations suggested that the robbers' methods were similar to those of a gang involved in previous rural bank robberies.

'Intelligence shows that the robbers may be hiding in Kumasi, and a team of surveillance men at AARU are working to trace their locations,' the source added.
