Wenchi: Pastor Samuel Addai, the Wenchi East District Pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church in the Bono Region, has emphasized the urgent need for the enactment and strict enforcement of sanitation bye-laws to enhance waste management and sanitation within the Municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, Pastor Addai has urged the Wenchi Municipal Assembly to work alongside the Wenchi Traditional Council and other relevant stakeholders to establish and enforce these bye-laws, aiming to foster a cleaner and healthier environment. His comments were made during an interview with the media on the sidelines of a cleanup exercise organized by the church in the Wenchi Municipality.
Pastor Addai voiced his concern over the widespread littering and improper disposal of plastic waste and materials in the Wenchi Township, which pose significant health risks by exposing the community to communicable diseases and other hazards. He called on residents to adopt a more responsible attitude towards maintaining environmental cleanliness.
In a proactive step towards addressing the issue, Pastor Addai led the congregation of the Wenchi East and West Districts of the Midwest Ghana Conference in a cleanup effort. The initiative involved clearing choked gutters, tidying up weedy areas, and sweeping the streets of the Township and the Wenchi main lorry station.
Commercial drivers who participated in the exercise expressed their appreciation to the Ghana News Agency, commending the church for its efforts. They also appealed to the Wenchi Municipal Assembly to install bins at the station to facilitate proper refuse collection.
