Nkrankrom Women Urge for Urgent Toilet Facilities to Combat Open Defecation

Sunyani: Women in Nkrankrom, a farming community within the Sunyani Municipality, have made a heartfelt appeal for the construction of toilet facilities to address the pressing issue of open defecation in the area. The community's only communal toilet, built decades ago, is now in a state of disrepair, prompting the women to seek assistance from individuals, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), corporate bodies, and philanthropic organizations.

According to Ghana News Agency, the women residents explained that the existing toilet is a wooden structure located at a distance from the community, posing a safety risk for women and children, especially at night. This situation has forced some to resort to using black polythene bags for sanitation needs during nighttime hours, as shared by resident Madam Faustina Akankoh.

Madam Akankoh also highlighted the community's need for support in completing an ICT center project currently underway. Another resident, Mavis Yeboah, emphasized the importance of modern toilet facilities to improve the poor sanitation conditions, noting the unsanitary practice of some individuals using nearby bushes for defecation.

The women of Nkrankrom hope that their appeal will garner the attention and support needed to bring about much-needed improvements in the community's sanitation infrastructure.
