NIC Encourages Policyholders to Utilize Commission Support

Sunyani: Mrs. Shirley Nicco-Annan, the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regional Head of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), has called on insurance policyholders to engage with the commission when insurance companies fail to settle their legitimate claims. She emphasized that policyholders do not need legal representation to pursue their claims, as the NIC is available to assist in securing unpaid claims.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Nicco-Annan highlighted the NIC's role in mediating and resolving issues related to insurance claim payments. She advised policyholders to approach the commission for support rather than seeking legal assistance, noting that the NIC is tasked with ensuring compliance within the insurance industry, safeguarding policyholder interests, promoting sustainable growth, and maintaining financial stability.

Mrs. Nicco-Annan explained that the NIC operates under the Insurance Act, Act 2021 (Act 1061), serving as the regulatory authority for the nation's insurance industry. She clarified that insurance is not exclusive to the affluent, as it provides financial protection against unforeseen events and accidents for anyone. She outlined various motor insurance packages available, such as third-party, fire and theft, and comprehensive insurance covers.

She acknowledged challenges such as the negative perception of insurance in the country and reiterated the NIC's commitment to raising awareness and changing public misconceptions. Mrs. Nicco-Annan also called for media collaboration to educate the public on the benefits of insurance and to increase insurance penetration and understanding across the nation.
