Accra: Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, has assured Ghanaians to look forward to an 'unprecedented' level of development within the next four years. He emphasized that the period under President John Dramani Mahama's leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would mark a 'golden age of development,' welcoming contributions and support from everyone, regardless of their political orientation.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ibrahim, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Banda Constituency in the Bono Region, highlighted that inclusivity is the true embodiment of democracy and a core principle of the NDC to facilitate accelerated national development. He warned against disunity, backbiting, and petty squabbles, stating that such issues could derail the course of progressive national development, and called for national unity to propel development forward.
Mr. Ibrahim made these assurances while addressing a meeting of the Banda District Assembly at Banda Ahenkro, where the Assembly confirmed President Mahama's nominee, Mr. Peter Dongi, as the Banda District Chief Executive (DCE). The nominee received unanimous support from the 19-member assembly, securing 100 percent 'yes' votes in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission.
The Minister reiterated that the government is committed to including everyone in the nation's development processes and urged the youth to stay focused, make informed decisions, and support the development agenda. He encouraged the newly appointed DCE to prioritize development and urged the community to support him in implementing strategies to elevate the district's development.
Mr. Ibrahim also noted that the government had already nominated Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives for 13 regions, with the remaining three regions to follow shortly. He emphasized the government's commitment to deepening the decentralization process and remarked that the successful nominations and confirmations of the MMDCEs signify cohesiveness in advancing the nation's decentralization system.
