Accra: National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, stated that the NDC government recognizes the contribution of the Sacred Action Church in the development of the country. He emphasized that the state would continue to cooperate with the church to foster a holistic and inclusive society. Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah made these remarks while leading a delegation of NDC executives to the final funeral rites of the late Reverend Matthew Blay Andoh, founder of the Sacred Action Church in the Western Region. The revered church leader passed away at the age of 103 after a short illness.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah was accompanied by the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Madam Dorcas Afo-Toffey, the Western Regional Chairperson of the Party, Nana Toku, the NDC Regional Chairman of Brong Ahafo, Mr. Nyamekye Marfo, and Dr. Clement C. Blay, an NDC party member in Ellembelle. Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah described the late Reverend Andoh as someone who made significant contributions to society. He acknowledged that while clergy are not typically involved in open politics, Reverend Andoh's influence was felt through his son, Mr. Robert Andoh, a staunch NDC supporter in the U.S., who offered financial and resource support to the party.
The NDC National Chairman highlighted that Reverend Andoh, through his son, had provided substantial support to the party in Jomoro, offering advice and positive direction that helped the party during times of crisis. Notably, Mr. Robert Andoh also donated two buses to support party activities. In a gesture of condolence, Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah donated GHc10,000.00 to the bereaved family.
Madam Dorcas Afo-Toffey, the MP for Jomoro, also paid tribute to the late Reverend Andoh, describing him as a unifier who significantly contributed to the party's revival during its time in opposition. She matched the donation made by Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah with a contribution of GHc10,000.00 to the family.
Earlier, the Reverend John Essien of the Sacred Action Church delivered a sermon urging individuals to rededicate their lives to God regardless of their worldly positions. He emphasized that worldly riches and glories are transient and that it is better to focus on spiritual matters to attain eternal life. Reverend Essien described the late Reverend Andoh as a committed servant of Christ who dedicated his life to guiding others to the faith.
In a tribute, the late Reverend Andoh was remembered as a devoted warrior of Christ Jesus, known for his prayerfulness, kindness, loyalty, and mentorship.
