Accra: Nations FC, a club in the Ghana Premier League (GPL), announced their decision to halt their match against Basake Holy Stars due to security issues that arose during the game.According to Ghana News Agency, the match took place at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Stadium and was stopped midway through the second half while the home team was leading. Nations FC issued a statement attributing their decision to poor officiating, which they claimed compromised the fairness and integrity of the match. The statement further detailed that both Nations FC's President, Mr. Divine Kyei Boadu, and Chairman, Dr. Kwame Kyei, were subjected to physical assault by home supporters. This incident reportedly created an unsafe environment for their players and officials. Moreover, Nations FC highlighted the lack of adequate security at the stadium. The pre-match agreement called for 70 police officers to ensure security, but fewer than 20 officers were present, leaving the team and supporters exposed to potential threats. The club also expressed their discontent over the treatment of their fans, who were denied entry to the stadium despite holding valid tickets. Nations FC labeled this act as discriminatory and disrespectful, going against the principles of fair play and sportsmanship. In light of these events, Nations FC urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to investigate the incidents and take appropriate actions. They emphasized the importance of maintaining safety, dignity, and fairness for all clubs, officials, and supporters involved in the league.
