Sunyani: Mr. Seid Mubarak, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, has announced his efforts to secure a $50 million investment aimed at renovating the Sunyani Daily Market. The MP shared that addressing the socio-economic and developmental needs of his constituency has been a driving force behind his political career.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Mubarak emphasized his commitment to improving access to essential services, such as potable drinking water, citing his personal initiatives to construct mechanized boreholes in underserved communities even before his election. His dedication to development is reflected in his continuous efforts to attract both local and foreign investments, as well as support from the central government and international partners.
The current focus of his efforts is the rehabilitation and expansion of the Sunyani Daily Market, also known as Masomsom Market. Mr. Mubarak outlined plans for a complete overhaul of the market, which would involve demolishing existing structures and replacing them with modern facilities. These improvements aim to enhance the Sunyani Central Business District by fostering trade and commerce, ultimately benefiting traders, entrepreneurs, and market women, and stimulating local economic growth.
The proposed market project, which is set to be executed in two phases, will feature over 1,000 stores allocated to local traders and market women. This initiative is expected to address the congestion issues caused by increasing human and vehicular traffic in the Sunyani CBD, which currently hampers business growth.
Mr. Mubarak reaffirmed his commitment to equitable distribution of development projects across all communities, particularly those that are deprived and in need. Drawing from his personal experience of growing up in Sunyani, where his mother was a trader at the daily market, he expressed a deep understanding of the challenges faced by market women and traders in the area.
