Akwatia: The Police at Akwatia in the Eastern Region have detained a 36-year-old man over the possession of three guns during a snap check at Staff Village, Boadua in the region. Stephen Nkansah, a mourner, was nabbed during a search on his Toyota Tundra Pick up, which was heading from Asamankese to Boadua with five other mourners on board.
According to Ghana News Agency, two of the three guns retrieved from the vehicle are Pardus pump action and Hulglu pump action guns. Nkansah, during interrogation, told the police that two of the guns belonged to him and the other belonged to his 'chief.' They were reportedly on their way to a funeral at Akyim Tayiman.
Police say Nkansah has been detained for further investigations. The incident has raised concerns about the security measures in the region, especially during events that attract large gatherings, such as funerals.
