Sunyani: The MIHOSO International Foundation, a health-centered Non-Governmental Organisation, has distributed 200 HIV/AIDS Oral-quick test kits to some vulnerable populations at Penkwasi and New-Dormaa in the Sunyani Municipality. Additionally, the foundation distributed 1,008 condoms to help contain the spread of new infections of HIV in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Thomas Benarkuu, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MIHOSO, stated that the exercise aligns with the Ghana HIV/AIDS Network (GHANET) 'HIV Self-Test Kit Distribution' campaign. The campaign aims to strengthen community awareness and help stem the spread of HIV/AIDS in Sunyani Municipality.
Mr. Benarkuu further explained that the foundation began the distribution exercises on October 14, 2025, with the goal of ensuring that the vulnerable population in the Sunyani Municipality could access the condoms and oral test kits to check their HIV/AIDS status personally. With the support of dedicated volunteers, the foundation is also conducting community outreach sessions and campaigns to encourage open discussions about HIV, address community concerns, and deepen awareness and commitment to ending HIV transmission.
HIV is rapidly spreading in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital, with new infections registering alarming figures. The Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) sentinel survey reports the municipality's HIV prevalence at 3.8 percent, which is higher than the national sentinel survey average.
