Mahama Announces State Funeral for Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has announced the government's decision to honor the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former First Lady of Ghana, with a state funeral. She passed away on October 23 at the age of 76. The President emphasized that the former First Lady would receive the full honors befitting her role as a Mother of the Nation.According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama made this announcement during a visit to the Agyeman-Rawlings family at their residence in Ridge, Accra. Accompanied by First Lady Lordina Mahama and senior government officials, he expressed his condolences to the family. Recalling the shock of her passing, President Mahama shared his last encounter with Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings at the Asantehemaa's funeral in Kumasi, noting her lively demeanor at the time.President Mahama highlighted Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings' significant contributions during her 19-year tenure as First Lady, particularly in the area of women's empowerment. He pointed to her initiatives s uch as palm oil extraction machines and gari production projects, which continue to benefit women across the nation.The President assured the family of the government's support and collaboration in organizing the state funeral. He stated, "We're waiting for the family to meet and tell us what their desires are."The late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings is survived by her four children, including Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle. Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings expressed gratitude on behalf of the family for the President's support, including the declaration of three days of national mourning in honor of their mother.
