‘Loading Boy’ Sentenced to 18 Months for Stealing Chicken in Kumasi

Kwadaso: A 21-year-old man known as a 'loading boy' has been sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Kwadaso Circuit Court for stealing six boxes of chicken meat at Adehyeman Market in Kumasi, located in the Ashanti Region.

According to Ghana News Agency, Kwabena Manu, the accused, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing and was subsequently convicted on his own plea. The case was prosecuted by Police Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi, who presented the details before the court, presided over by Mr. Jephthah Appau.

The complainant in the case, Gifty Zaan, who is a trader based in Kumasi-Afrancho, was seeking a vehicle on September 8 to transport her six boxes of chicken, valued at GHc 2,100, from Adehyeman Market to Afrancho. The convict, posing as a helper, approached Zaan and offered assistance by taking four of the boxes to the Afrancho Trotro Station.

However, when Zaan went back to pick up the remaining two boxes, she found that Manu had disappeared with the four boxes and was unreachable until later that evening. When confronted, Manu failed to provide any credible explanation regarding the missing boxes, leading to his arrest and subsequent handover to the Suame police.

Further investigations culminated in Manu being charged and brought before the court, where he was handed an 18-month prison sentence.
