Let’s Promote Cleanliness for Good Health – Agortime-Ziope DCE

Accra: Mr Alfred Odikro Klu, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Agortime-Ziope District, has called on residents to promote environmental cleanliness as a pathway to good health and sustainable development. He made the call when he joined community members at Batume Junction to participate in a clean-up exercise as part of the National Sanitation Day activities held over the weekend.

According to Ghana News Agency, the exercise brought together residents, opinion leaders, assembly members, and volunteers who worked hand in hand to desilt choked gutters, sweep streets, and clear overgrown weeds from public spaces. Mr Klu commended the people of Batume Junction for their active participation, describing their efforts as a demonstration of communal spirit and civic responsibility.

Mr Klu emphasized that environmental cleanliness is crucial not only for aesthetics but also for health, safety, and the future of the children in the community. He urged the residents to make cleanliness a habit rather than just an event, advocating for a cleaner and healthier Agortime-Ziope District.

He also encouraged residents across the district to embrace regular clean-up activities and proper waste disposal practices to prevent disease outbreaks, especially as the rainy season continued. Additionally, Mr Klu called on traditional authorities and youth groups to support the Assembly's sanitation initiatives and help educate community members on the importance of hygiene and environmental conservation.

Some residents who participated in the exercise expressed their motivation by the presence of the DCE and pledged to continue supporting such initiatives in the future. National Sanitation Day is observed on the first Saturday of every month and aims to promote public hygiene and awareness across the country.
