GNAT Keta District Holds Seventh Quadrennial Delegates Conference to Elect New Leaders

Keta: The Keta District Chapter of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) successfully held its Seventh Quadrennial (54th) District Delegates Conference to elect new leaders and to deliberate on the course of the association for the next four years. The conference brought together teacher union members from across the Keta Municipality and Anloga District, under the theme: 'The Ghana Education Service at 50: Achievements, Teacher Motivation, Challenges, and the Way Forward.'According to Ghana News Agency, the gathering served as a platform to assess the state of education, celebrate milestones within the Ghana Education Service (GES), and deliberate on pressing challenges facing the teaching profession. More than 2,700 members are registered with the GNAT Keta District, with more than 100 accredited delegates and observers participating in the day's activities.Mr. Dominic Dzanado, the Anloga District Director of Education, in his keynote address, commended teachers for their dedication to duty and contribution to nurturing the next generation. He stated, 'Our teachers remain the backbone of national development, your daily sacrifices in the classroom and your contribution to moral and civic education continue to shape the future of Ghana. I urge you to uphold the highest standards of the teaching profession, both within and beyond the classroom.'The event featured several key activities, including the presentation and adoption of audited financial statements covering the period from May 2020 to May 2024, the submission of strategic resolutions, and the unveiling of the Association's new four-year plan spanning May 2025 to May 2029. A significant highlight of the day was the conduct of the association's quadrennial elections to usher in new executives who will steer the affairs of GNAT Keta District for the next four years.After an intense campaign and voting period, Mr. Ferguson Mattah was re-elected to serve as the District Chairman, reaffirming the confidence members have in his leadership. H e will be assisted by Mr. Benard Ahiegkpor, who was elected Vice Chairman. Mr. Benson Mensah secured the position of District Treasurer. Other elected officers include Mr. Raphael Kwadzo Agbanavor as the Basic Schools Representative, and Mr. Robertson Kwagbedzi as the Senior High/Technical Schools Representative. Mr. Apity Eric was elected as the Youth Coordinator, while Madam Pearl Attitsogbui will serve as the GNATLAS Coordinator. The representatives for the Education Office are Madam Bridget Tettey and Mr. Wise Dotse, and as the TVET representative.Mr. Mattah, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to work closely with all stakeholders to advance the welfare of teachers. He remarked, 'This renewed mandate is not just a vote of confidence, but a call to do more, together with my team, we will prioritise teacher welfare, professional development, and policy advocacy to strengthen our union and the education system as a whole.'The conference ended with a rene wed sense of purpose among delegates, who resolved to champion professionalism, unity, and resilience in the face of educational challenges.
