Sunyani: The Global Media Foundation (GloMeF), a media advocacy and anti-corruption Non-Governmental Organisation, has extended congratulations to Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour on his re-election as the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
According to Ghana News Agency, GloMeF praised the peaceful and democratic conduct of the GJA national elections, describing it as 'a fresh opportunity' for the GJA to reposition itself and remain a strong force in the nation's governance landscape. The congratulatory message was delivered in a statement released in Sunyani and signed by Mr. Raphael Godlove Ahenu, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of GloMeF.
The Foundation emphasized that Ghana is currently facing significant challenges, including issues of corruption, poor governance, and accountability deficits. It urged the GJA to actively fulfill its role in monitoring the nation's democratic journey and advised the association to avoid partisan politics to maintain its credibility.
The statement highlighted the risk of political influence in the affairs of the GJA, which could undermine public confidence in its neutrality. It called on the GJA President to focus on strengthening the Association's integrity, independence, and professional relevance.
Furthermore, the statement urged the new leadership to prioritize media freedom and the welfare of journalists while promoting high ethical standards within the profession.
