GJA Elections: GNA’s Caesar Abagali to Contest GJA’s Public Affairs Officer Position

Accra: Mr Caesar Abagali, the Upper East Regional Manager of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), is contesting the Public Affairs Officer position of the Ghana Journalists' Association (GJA), pledging to strengthen internal communication, promote inter-regional collaboration, and enhance the Association's public image.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Abagali expressed that his decision to vie for the position stemmed from his commitment to advancing journalism in Ghana and his desire to ensure a more connected and respected GJA. He emphasized that improving internal communications would enhance information flow and engagement among members at all levels of the Association.

Mr Abagali also conveyed optimism about promoting interregional connectedness, which he believes will foster unity and collaboration across branches. He highlighted the importance of reviving the GJA's public interface to restore public confidence in journalism. Additionally, he emphasized the need for the GJA to maintain a database and pledged to implement other reforms to help the Association regain its former stature if elected.

With a wealth of leadership experience, Mr Abagali has served as GNA Regional Manager for both the Northern and Upper West Regions. His involvement with the GJA includes roles such as Regional Secretary, Regional Chairman for the Northern Region, and membership on the Association's National Executive Council. He is also recognized for his outstanding reporting on human rights abuses and sanitation, having won awards three times for his work.

His contributions to the revision of the GJA Code of Ethics in 2016 played a significant role in shaping the professional standards guiding journalism in the country. Mr Abagali's academic credentials include a Diploma and a Bachelor's degree in Communication Studies from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, as well as a Master's degree in Communication Studies from the University of Cape Coast.
