Kumasi: The 2024 edition of the prestigious Captain One Golf Society's Invitational Golf Championship has been scheduled for January 17-19 at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi and the Obuasi Golf Club. The championship, which marks the 8th Major, will commence at the Royal Golf Club featuring the first-ever Footgolf Competition ahead of the main golf competition on January 18.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Pius Ayeh Appiah, President of the Captain One Golf Society, revealed in an interview that female golfers under the Captain One Kids Project would participate alongside amateur and professional golfers for the first time. "We intend to provide the same playing field for our young golfers to compete for glory. This would give them the exposure and experience needed to become great professionals," he stated.He further mentioned that the introduction of Footgolf is aimed at encouraging wider participation in golf and promoting physical activities. Mr. Appiah emphasized that this new addition would allow m any, including non-golfers, to experience playing on the golf course and become acquainted with the sport.The President expressed his team's preparedness to host this year's edition and called on sponsors to support the event's success. The competition is set to feature some of the continent's best players, including former winner Vincent Torgah and rising female golfer Ayisha Aminu.Aminu, nominated for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards' Discovery of the Year, is eager to follow in the footsteps of some of the top female golfers in Ghana and beyond.
