Accra: The Kaneshie District Court One has granted a GHC70,000.00 bail with two sureties to a driver who allegedly knocked down and killed a pedestrian. The plea of John Takyi was not taken as a copy of the docket has been forwarded to the Attorney General for advice. Takyi is facing charges of careless and inconsiderate driving as well as negligently causing harm. The Court has ordered Takyi to make his next appearance on June 25, 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah provided the details of the incident. On May 10, 2025, at approximately 1930 hours, Takyi was operating a Kia Sorento with registration number GR 2926-21. He reported to the police station that he was driving from Odorkor towards Mallam along the Dr. K.A. Busia highway when the accident occurred.
The court heard that as Takyi reached a section of the road at Odorkor water works, he struck Kojo Andoh, a pedestrian aged about 50, who was crossing the road. Andoh was immediately rushed to Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, where the Medical Officer on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.
Chief Inspector Apewah informed the court that Andoh's body was subsequently deposited at the hospital's mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Following the investigations, Takyi was charged with the offences and summoned to appear before the court.
