Department of Parks and Gardens Faces Staffing and Logistics Issues

Sunyani: Mr. Daniel Kwasi Borsah, the Bono Regional Director of the Department of Parks and Gardens, has urged the government to recruit additional field personnel to help the Department achieve its objectives. In an interview, he highlighted concerns about the insufficiency of staff in the region, noting that 52 employees retired between 2012 and 2024 without any replacements.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Borsah emphasized that the shortage of personnel poses a significant challenge to fulfilling the Department's responsibilities, with only two field personnel currently available. He stated that the Department requires over 20 new hires to prevent operational collapse.

Field personnel are essential for tasks such as mowing, pruning, weeding, sweeping, and lawn reshaping. Mr. Borsah also appealed for government support in providing necessary logistics for field activities. The Department struggles to maintain government bungalows and public areas due to insufficient equipment, having only two trimmer machines and broken mowers.
