Central Tongu DCE Addresses Concerns Over GH?120,000 Furniture Procurement

Central tongu: Mr Addison Dodzi Mornyuie, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Central Tongu, has responded to recent media reports alleging that his office spent an amount of GH?120,000 on furniture procurement. He described the claims as misleading and lacking full context.

According to Ghana News Agency, the DCE explained in an exclusive interview that the procurement of office chairs and conference hall seating was a necessary intervention to resolve long-standing inefficiencies within the Assembly's operations. Mr. Mornyuie noted that when he assumed office, there was an urgent need to equip the District Assembly Office with basic seating as staff were compelled to use conference hall chairs in their offices, which rendered the hall unusable for its official purpose. Therefore, the procurement aimed at providing dedicated seating for both the offices and the conference hall.

Mr. Mornyuie further emphasized that the process followed due diligence and was not a unilateral decision. He clarified that the procurement was carried out through the appropriate Management Committee structures, with the full involvement of the District Coordinating Director and other relevant officers. "This was a collective, duly authorized arrangement, and not the personal discretion of the DCE," he stressed.

The Central Tongu DCE assured the public that his administration remains committed to transparency, prudent use of resources, and ensuring that the District Assembly is adequately equipped to deliver on its mandate.
