Accra: Businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo has gifted a brand new Hyundai Elantra to Black Stars and Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare. The presentation took place at the Accra Hearts of Oak Commercial Centre.

According to Ghana News Agency, the donation was initiated after a viral video surfaced showing the national team star commuting in a public transport vehicle known as ‘trotro’. Alhaji Agongo stated that he was inspired to make this generous gesture after witnessing the video and felt that national sports figures deserve better recognition for their hard work.

“When I saw the video, I was moved by his humility. Here is someone representing our nation at the highest level yet remaining so grounded. Such a character deserves recognition,” he commented.

Alhaji Agongo, known for his support of widows, orphans, and various community projects throughout Ghana, organized the delivery of the new vehicle to Asare, earning widespread praise from sports enthusiasts across the nation.

Asare, who currently serves as the primary goalkeeper for the Black Stars, expressed deep gratitude to Alhaji Agongo for recognizing him as a national star. “This is beyond my wildest dreams. I take the trotro not because I want sympathy but because I believe in living simply. Mr. Agongo’s kindness has overwhelmed me, and I promise to honour this gift by continuing to give my best for Ghana,” Asare remarked.

The former Accra Great Olympics goalkeeper has had a remarkable season with Accra Hearts of Oak, leading to his selection for the national team in the recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where he successfully kept two clean sheets.
